Improving node number simulation in soybean PAB
Streck,Nereu Augusto; Paula,Gizelli Moiano de; Oliveira,Felipe Brendler; Schwantes,Ana Paula; Menezes,Nilson Lemos de.
The objective of this study was to improve the simulation of node number in soybean cultivars with determinate stem habits. A nonlinear model considering two approaches to input daily air temperature data (daily mean temperature and daily minimum/maximum air temperatures) was used. The node number on the main stem data of ten soybean cultivars was collected in a three-year field experiment (from 2004/2005 to 2006/2007) at Santa Maria, RS, Brazil. Node number was simulated using the Soydev model, which has a nonlinear temperature response function [f(T)]. The f(T) was calculated using two methods: using daily mean air temperature calculated as the arithmetic average among daily minimum and maximum air temperatures (Soydev tmean); and calculating an f(T)...

Maize leaf development under climate change scenarios PAB
Streck,Nereu Augusto; Langner,Josana Andréia; Lago,Isabel.
The objective of this work was to simulate maize leaf development in climate change scenarios at Santa Maria, RS, Brazil, considering symmetric and asymmetric increases in air temperature. The model of Wang & Engel for leaf appearance rate (LAR), with genotype-specific coefficients for the maize variety BRS Missões, was used to simulate tip and expanded leaf accumulated number from emergence to flag leaf appearance and expansion, for nine emergence dates from August 15 to April 15. LAR model was run for each emergence date in 100-year climate scenarios: current climate, and +1, +2, +3, +4 and +5°C increase in mean air temperature, with symmetric and asymmetric increase in daily minimum and maximum air temperature. Maize crop failure due to frost...

Observed and estimated leaf appearance of landrace and improved maize cultivars Ciência Rural
Langner,Josana Andreia; Streck,Nereu Augusto; Durigon,Angelica; Silva,Stefanía Dalmolin da; Lago,Isabel; Dalmago,Genei Antonio; Reiniger,Lia Rejane Silveira; Scheffel,Lúcio Gabriel; Poersch,Anderson Haas.
ABSTRACT: The objective of this study was to compare the simulations of leaf appearance of landrace and improved maize cultivars using the CSM-CERES-Maize (linear) and the Wang and Engel models (nonlinear). The coefficients of the models were calibrated using a data set of total leaf number collected in the 11/04/2013 sowing date for the landrace varieties ‘Cinquentinha’ and ‘Bico de Ouro’ and the simple hybrid ‘AS 1573PRO’. For the ‘BRS Planalto’ variety, model coefficients were estimated with data from 12/13/2014 sowing date. Evaluation of the models was with independent data sets collected during the growing seasons of 2013/2014 (Experiment 1) and 2014/2015 (Experiment 2) in Santa Maria, RS, Brazil. Total number of leaves for both landrace and improved...

Prediction model for phenology of grapevine cultivars with hot water treatment PAB
Lerin,Sabrina; Grohs,Daniel Santos; Almança,Marcus André Kurtz; Botton,Marcos; Mello-Farias,Paulo; Fachinello,José Carlos.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to prepare a prediction model for the phenology of grapevine cultivars (Bordô, Cabernet Sauvignon, Moscato Embrapa, Paulsen 1103, SO4, and IAC 572) using hot water treatment. The heat treatment with hot water consisted of combinations of three temperatures (50, 53, and 55°C) and three time periods (30, 45, and 60 min), with or without previous hydration for 30 min. After the treatments, the cuttings were planted in the field and their phenological development was evaluated during two months. The six studied cultivars presented different responses to the effects of the factors temperature and time, but did not differ significantly regarding hydration. It was possible to develop a mathematical model for the use of hot...

Quantitative variables applied to phenological studies of Sargassum vulgare C. Agardh (Phaeophyceae - Fucales) from Ilha Grande Bay, State of Rio de Janeiro Rev. Bras. Bot.
Széchy,Maria Teresa M. de; Galliez,Maron; Marconi,Márcia I..
The suitability of quantitative variables for phenological studies was evaluated in a population of the brown seaweed Sargassum vulgare from "Praia das Gordas", Angra dos Reis, Ilha Grande Bay, state of Rio de Janeiro. From June 1998 to May 1999, twenty adult individuals were randomly sampled at bimonthly intervals. Fifteen variables related to the vegetative and reproductive development of perennial and non-perennial parts of the individuals were quantified. Variables related to the non-perennial parts were more useful than those related to the perennial parts, because they showed a clear variation over the year. Vegetative development declined from June to October, and increased from October to February, when maximum median values of thallus height,...

Rooting Platanus (Platanus acerifolia (Aiton) Willd.) cuttings in Marechal Cândido Rondon - PR, Brazil: Influence of lesions at cutting bases and depth of planting Acta Agron. (Palmira)
Rosa,Danimar Dalla; Tres,Gessika; Broti-Rissato,Bruna; Lorenzetti,Eloisa; Guimarães,Vandeir Francisco; Feiden,Armin.
Abstract Platanus, an arboreal and deciduous plant, is widely adapted and can be used for several purposes. Despite producing viable seeds, production of platanus seedlings usually occurs through vegetative propagation; cuttings are the best and most efficient source for obtaining seedlings. Although cuttings offer a practical and easy method to obtain seedlings in different vegetable species, they are influenced by several factors, both external and internal. The present study aimed to analyze the behavior of plantain cuttings planted in sand subjected to damage or no damage at the cuttings base, and planted at depths of 20 and 40 cm. Experiment was carried out at the experimental station of horticulture and protected cultivation of UNIOESTE-Brazil, in a...

The vegetative and root development of the species of Brazilian orchids Cattleya intermedia (John Lindley) and Miltonia clowesii (John Lindley) using different substrates and pyroligneous extract were assessed. Seedlings from in vitro propagation were transferred to vessels with: T1 - Pinus bark (Pi), coconut fibers (Co) and charred peel of rice (Cr); T2 – PiCoCr and vegetal charcoal (Ch), T3 – PiCoCrCh with the charcoal treated with pyroligneous extract (PE); T4 - CoCrChEP and T5 - CoCrCh. The materials used in substrates were placed in the same ratio. Plant height, number of roots, length of the greater root, number of buddings, total fresh mass and pH were assessed seven months after experiment onset. For Para C. intermedia, T3 was superior than the...

Unravelling MADS-box gene family in Eucalyptus spp.: a starting point to an understanding of their developmental role in trees Genet. Mol. Biol.
Dias,Beatriz Fonseca de Oliveira; Simões-Araújo,Jean Luiz; Russo,Claudia A.M.; Margis,Rogério; Alves-Ferreira,Márcio.
MADS-box genes encode a family of transcription factors which control diverse developmental processes in flowering plants ranging from root to flower and fruit development. Members of the MADS-box gene family share a highly conserved sequence of approximately 180 nucleotides that encodes a DNA-binding domain. We used bioinformatics tools to investigate the information generated by the Eucalyptus Expressed Sequence Tag (FORESTs) genome project in order to identify and annotate MADS-box genes. The comparative phylogenetic analysis of the Eucalyptus MADS-box genes with Arabidopsis homologues allowed us to group them into one of the well-known subfamilies. Trends in gene expression of these putative Eucalyptus MADS-box genes were investigated by hierarchical...
